 Hiking in Nature

The Journey of Everesteer Lahu Ughade

Born amidst the rugged terrain of Sinhagad, I was the youngest of four children raised by my mother alone. To sustain our family, she worked tirelessly — preparing bhakris for local inns nestled within the fort’s embrace. Despite her dedication, our humble income could barely support my education.

Refusing to surrender, my mother turned adversity into opportunity by setting up a small refreshment stall for the fort’s visitors. Every day she climbed the steep path to Sinhagad, sacrificing comfort for my future. Her courage and determination laid the foundation for everything I’ve achieved.

From a young age, I developed resilience through hard work — carrying loads as a porter for a bottled-water company and supplying lemons and drinks to my mother’s stall.
Those countless treks to Sinhagad Fort strengthened my body and spirit, preparing me for the mountains that would later define my life.

Among the trekkers I met was Shree Surendra Shelke, a renowned mountaineer who recognized my potential and encouraged me to pursue formal training. With the generous support of the trekking community, I enrolled in a course at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Rock Climbing, where I graduated at the top of my class.

In 2015, I founded SL Adventure - a dream turned reality - to share the thrill and transformation that the mountains had given me. Since then, SL Adventure has organized over 2,300 treks, climbs, rappelling events, and Himalayan expeditions across India.

In 2016, life blessed me with Swapnali, my soulmate and steadfast companion. Together, we’ve faced challenges with courage and a shared desire to uplift others. Along the way, I have participated in several rescue operations during floods, landslides, animal attacks, and trekking accidents - earning the heartfelt gratitude of the people and commendations from various organizations.

But the road was not always easy.
The COVID-19 pandemic struck a heavy blow to our finances and forced deep reflection. Without a degree or stable income, I realized I had to rely on what life had truly taught me — endurance, discipline, and faith.

On November 5, 2020, I made the bold decision to climb Mount Everest - to test my limits and inspire others to rise above their own.
Three years of rigorous physical, mental, and financial preparation followed. On April 3, 2023, I reached Kathmandu, and after 12 days of intense training and weeks of rotation climbs, I stood at the summit of Mount Everest on May 23, 2023 - carrying the Tricolor of India and Maharashtra’s saffron flag.
In that moment, I felt the spirit of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj ignite within me.

That climb transformed me forever - blood, sweat, and victory.
It revealed a strength and resilience I never knew I possessed.

Today, through SL Adventure, I dedicate my life to empowering others - helping people build mental strength, physical fitness, and confidence through trekking and nature-based experiences.
Our mission is to help Indians conquer their fears, embrace nature, and live stronger, more fulfilling lives.

“Mountains teach us humility, courage, and patience
and once you’ve conquered one, you realize there’s no limit to what you can do.”
